Finding Strength

I find a lot of strength in the scriptures. I means a lot to be able to look into the holy scriptures and see eternal truths being given and eternal truths triumphing over evil. It’s these scriptures that give me the strength to know that no matter what bad things may try to bother me, I know I will be ok and I know that with our Heavenly Father’s help, I will be able to endure to the end.

In times of trials and uncertainties, it is a good idea to turn to scriptures for guidance and help. I really urge you to look for the answers when you have questions. It is something I have long encouraged my students to do. You may find answers to your questions in many different places depending on your questions, but for eternal questions, I have found the scriptures to the best place for me.

You’ll find the answers that give you strength if you just look for them.

The Passing of a Leader

It is kind of sad the passing of a great leader, especially when it is a leader who has done a lot to help people around the world. I may not be Mormon, but I think the passing of the Gordon Hinckley is a sad day for people around the world who can see the good things made in this world thanks to the work of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. I see a lot of good they have done in helping people both spiritually, emotionally and financially.

I remember there work back in my hometown in the Philippines where they would help people who didn’t have food enough to eat and how they would open their church to activities. Not to mention the humble way the missionaries would go door to door sharing their version of the Gospel. I appreciate much of what they have done and I hope the Mormon Church continues its work under new leadership.

I think our family just might visit the local Mormon Church this Sunday to learn even more about their work and express my condolences in person to followers of their late leader.

Family Scrapbook Night

Being a family on the go, we never have had a photo album for very long. They are very bulky and easily fill up boxes or even suitcases when we make a move. Most of our photos are kept in shoeboxes or worse. I have decided lately that enough is enough and I have embarked on a family scrapbooking project with the kids.

Basically, a few times a week, my husband, my kids and I will all sit down on the floor of our living room to make scrapbooks. The scrapbooks are very personal and have the goal of telling a story. So far it is working very well and the kids are even getting into the act. I thought they might be a bit young but they love helping out with their scrapbooks.

Has anyone tried family scrapbook nights?

New Year Resolutions

It’s that time of the year again to make New Years Resolutions and try not to break them before the end of January. I have made a couple of New Years resolutions in order to help my family. I have decided to try to cook more meals at home. In the busy days of teaching, it can be tough to find the time to cook the meals I have wanted to, but I am going to make that effort this year.

I am also going to make a resolution to do volunteer work. I’d like to volunteer more often to help people. I think it would something benefical for everyone.

Finally, I am resolved to write a book this year. I am trying to discover the topic, maybe I will just start writing and see what happens.

What kind of resolutions have you made?

Family Together Night

Oneof the most important things we can do as parents is to bond with our children and spend precious time with them getting even closer to them. The more opportunities we have to bond with our children, the more well adjusted they will be and the more happy they will be. Sometimes though it is hard to find the time to devote to the family a much as we would like to.

My husband and I came up with a great idea to increase the amount of family time we spend with our children. We set aside one evening a week for Family Together Night. From dinner time until bed time, it is family time. It starts off with dinner and after dinner, we all do the chores together.

Next we will pull out some puzzles or other activities and do them all together. Sometimes, I will play my guitar with special songs for the kids. Other times we might work on the family scrapbook. When it’s time to go to bed, we put the kids to sleep together and read them stories.

After the kids are asleep, my husband and I spend time talking, sharing and maybe even play a game of scrabble or chess. The important thing is that it is family time.

Christmas Dinner

Christmas Dinner is one of the favorite meals in my family. We enjoy it all the time. This year will be a special year for our family so we are preparing a very special meal for this Christmas dinner. We won’t have turkey because we are going to have a Filipino style dinner.

A Filipino meal means adobo, lumpia, and spaghetti. Lumpia is like Shanghai spring rolls. We will stuff them with tuna fish and other we will stuff with corned beef and carrots. They certainly will taste very good. Our adobo will be beef adobo. I am anxious to see how the family enjoys the cooking this year. Merry Christmas!

Family Time

Ah, family time. It’s wonderful to spend the day with the family. It is nice to be able to go out and do things and not have to worry about other things to do. I love being able to go around town, maybe visit the mall, do some shopping for the kids. It’s Christmas time very soon so shopping for the kids is such a great idea. Ah, family time, it feels so good. Family time is time we can treasure and hold and it gives us memories to last a lifetime.
