Being a Teacher

What does it take be a teacher? When I was young I wanted to be a teacher, why?just because I was scared of my teacher. I have two older sisters who are teachers. I have cousins who are teachers, which reminded me of the joke I made after I became a teacher. “You know what guys we can actually open our own school…we have enough teachers to open one and with one of my cousin who is in a high position in the department of education we are all set”

Is having a bachelor’s degree in any field of education makes you a teacher? Is someone who is good in Maths is a good teacher? Is someone who is good at dealing with kids a good teacher? Is having a good experience in the field of teaching makes one a perfect teacher? Really what does it take to be a good teacher?

I was reading an article about being a teacher and this is what I found out while reading her article “Teaching is like no other profession. As a teacher, you will wear many hats. You will, to name but of a few of the roles teachers assume in carrying out their duties, be a communicator, a disciplinarian, a conveyor of information, an evaluator, a classroom manager, a counselor, a member of many teams and groups, a decision-maker, a role-model, and a surrogate parent”

Base on my own experience anybody can be a teacher. But not all be a teacher inside a classroom.Where the real place of the teacher. I have see a lot of people who call themselves teacher but in reality they are not. Why? If you want to be a teacher, as you have to put aside your formal theories and intellectual constructs and axioms and statistics and charts when you reach out to touch that miracle called the individual human being. If you want to be a teacher, you have to fall in love each day. Fall in love with the things you like to do. Not complaining how tiring the day but smile at the end of the day and the thought that each day you learn things from your teaching and those learning come from your very own students.
